Lost at Sea A1/Reading, Listening, Pronunciation, Vocabulary & Grammar Lesson

It is June 1989. A husband and wife sail on a boat in the ocean. Suddenly, a group of whales attacks their boat. The boat sinks fast. The couple climbs into a small rubber raft. They float 1,200 miles away from the coast of Costa Rica. They stay on the raft for 66 days.

Before they get in the raft, they take out a special pump. This pump changes salt water into fresh water. Now they drink clean water every day. They also pick up some fishing equipment. They catch fish and eat it raw. This helps them survive.

After 66 days, the coast guard finds them. They take the couple to a hospital. Both are very sunburnt and tired. They lose 50 pounds during their time at sea. The doctors give them food and water.

For their next holiday, they decide to go to the mountains. They do not want to go back to the sea for a long time. They are very happy to be home safe.
