A Crime in California
Rolando and Maria Corpuz are a husband and wife. They live in San Diego, California. They run two homes for old people.
Some workers live and work in these homes. The workers look after old people every day. They cook, clean, and give medicine.
But Rolando and Maria treat the workers very badly. The workers do not get enough sleep. They work all day and all night. Rolando and Maria pay the workers very little money. This is not fair.
Rolando and Maria say to the workers: “Work, or we call immigration.” The workers are very scared. They do not speak up.
Now, a judge looks into the case. Rolando and Maria say: “We do nothing wrong.” But the judge says: “You must stay in California. You cannot go away.”
