Trump, Biden and Death Row B1/ Reading, Vocabulary, Listening, Pronunciation and Grammar Lesson

A federal judge in the United States is currently blocking the Trump administration from transferring 20 prisoners to a much stricter facility. The prisoners have been serving their sentences in a standard prison for a considerable amount of time. Before leaving office, President Biden commuted their punishments, which meant they were able to keep their lives but had to remain behind bars indefinitely.

President Trump is determined to move the prisoners to ADX Florence, one of the most secure prisons in the country. Conditions there are extremely tough, and prisoners must put up with being confined to their cells for 23 hours every day. They are not permitted to interact with other inmates, which means they have to get by completely on their own without any social contact.

However, the judge has ruled that the transfer cannot go ahead without due process. The prisoners were kept in the dark about the planned move, which meant they were unable to stand up for themselves or challenge the decision legally. Under the law, the government is obliged to follow fair procedures before making such significant changes to a prisoner’s conditions. In the end, the judge put his foot down and refused to let the administration push through the transfer. It seems that for now, the ball is in the Trump administration’s court.
