Old trumpet Found in England B1/Reading, Vocabulary, Listening and Grammar Lesson

Archaeologists have recently found an amazing old trumpet in England. The trumpet is about 2,000 years old and comes from the Iron Age – that’s like finding a needle in a haystack!

The trumpet is called a carnyx, and it’s made of bronze. Bronze is a metal that ancient people used to make weapons and tools. The Celts were using these trumpets when they were fighting against their enemies in wars.

This carnyx is really special because it’s still in one piece – it hasn’t broken down over time. Archaeologists have only found three of these trumpets in England, and this one is by far the best. All the parts are still there, which is pretty rare for something so old.

Back in those days, the Celtic people were always fighting against the Romans. The Romans were coming over from Italy and taking over different lands across Europe. Whenever the Romans won a battle, they would take away the carnyx trumpets as prizes. The trumpets showed everyone that they had beaten the Celtic warriors.

Today, scientists are studying this trumpet carefully. It’s helping us figure out how people lived 2,000 years ago. The trumpet has given us important clues about Celtic life and warfare. Researchers have discovered that the carnyx must have been incredibly loud – it could scare off enemies before the fighting even started! The sound probably made soldiers shake in their boots.

This discovery shows us that the Celts were picking up new ways to intimidate their enemies. The carnyx wasn’t just a musical instrument – it was a weapon of fear.
