A1 English Lesson: To Take - Present Simple (All Forms)

Language Focus

We use take for transport, time, medicine, and many other everyday actions.

Form	Structure	Example
Affirmative	I/you/we/they: take he/she/it: takes	I take the bus to work. She takes a shower every morning.
Negative	don't take / doesn't take	I don't take sugar in my coffee. He doesn't take criticism well.
Yes/No Question	Do...take...? / Does...take...?	Do you take the train often? Does she take vitamins?
Short Answer	Yes/No + subject + do/does(n't)	Yes, I do. No, she doesn't.
Wh- Question	Wh-word + do/does + subject + take...?	What time do you take your lunch break? How long does it take to get there?

Remember: don't confuse "take" and "bring"! We take something away from where we are (take your umbrella when you leave), but we bring something toward where we are (bring me the umbrella when you arrive). They describe opposite directions.

Listening: My Daily Commute

Context: describing a daily commute

Every day, I take the 8 o'clock train to the city.

It takes about forty minutes to get to my office.

My colleague doesn't take the train; she takes her car instead because she lives further away.

We don't take the same route home in the evening because of traffic.

My brother takes the bus, but it takes longer than the train.

On Fridays, I take a half day and finish work early.
