Language Focus
We use know to talk about facts, people, and information we have in our minds.
| Form | Structure | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Affirmative | I/you/we/they: know he/she/it: knows | I know the answer. She knows many languages. |
| Negative | don't know / doesn't know | I don't know his name. He doesn't know the way. |
| Yes/No Question | Do...know...? / Does...know...? | Do you know her? Does he know the truth? |
| Short Answer | Yes/No + subject + do/does(n't) | Yes, I do. No, she doesn't. |
| Wh- Question | Wh-word + do/does + subject + know...? | What do you know about this? How does she know him? |
Remember: "know" is a stative verb – it describes a mental state, not an action. We never use the continuous (-ing) form. "I am knowing the answer" is wrong – the correct form is simply "I know the answer".
