Present Simple: Wh- Questions

Asking What, Where, When, Why, Who, and How

Language Focus

We use Wh- question words to ask for information: a thing, a place, a time, a reason, a person, or a way of doing something.

The pattern is: Wh-word + do/does + subject + base verb

Wh-wordExample
What - a thing or activityWhat do you do after school?
Where - a placeWhere does he live?
When - a timeWhen do they arrive?
Why - a reasonWhy does she study so much?
Who - a personWho do you call?
How - a way of doing somethingHow do you get to school?

Remember: use do with I/you/we/they, and does with he/she/it. The main verb stays in its base form.
