Present Simple: Regular Verbs (Positive)

Language Focus

We use the present simple to talk about everyday actions, habits, and routines.

I / you / we / they + base formI work in a shop. They live in Paris.
he / she / it + verb + sHe works in a shop. She lives in Paris.
Verbs ending in -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x + esShe watches TV. He washes the car.
Consonant + y → change y to i, + esShe studies English. He carries the bags.

Remember: only he, she, and it need the extra letter on the verb. I, you, we, and they use the base form.

Context: Emma's daily routine
Emma works in a small shop in the city.
She starts work at nine o'clock.
She likes her job very much.
Every day, she talks to many customers.
At lunchtime, she eats a sandwich in the park.
In the afternoon, she helps customers find things.
She finishes work at five o'clock.
After work, she walks home.
At home, she cooks dinner and watches television.
She loves her quiet evenings.
