Level: A2 | Everyday English

Vocabulary

At A2 level you can already describe basic appearance and personality. This lesson extends that vocabulary so you can describe people in more depth — their character, behaviour, and how they interact with others.

Listening Practice

Listen to two colleagues talking about a new person who has joined their team. Then answer the questions.

Conversation - A New Team Member
Rafa: Have you had a chance to work with the new person yet? The one who started on Monday?
Sian: Yes, briefly. She seems really capable. She asked a lot of good questions in the meeting, which I thought was impressive for someone who has just arrived.
Rafa: I noticed that too. She comes across as very self-assured. Not in an arrogant way — more like she knows what she is doing.
Sian: Exactly. And she is clearly very motivated. She stayed late on Tuesday to finish a report, which she did not have to do.
Rafa: That is a good sign. What is she like to talk to? Is she sociable?
Sian: Very. She had lunch with the whole team on her first day. She is easy to get along with — quite warm and approachable.
Rafa: That is great. Some new starters can be a bit withdrawn at first, which is understandable, but it sounds like she has settled in well.
Sian: She has. I think she will be a really positive addition to the team. She is exactly the kind of reliable, hard-working person we needed.
