Polite email phrases are the fixed expressions we use in work emails. They help us sound professional and friendly. In this lesson you will learn phrases for starting, continuing, and finishing a work email.

A polite and formal way to begin an email to one person.
"Dear Ms Chen," / "Dear Carlos,"
I am writing to …use at the start
Use this phrase to tell the reader why you are writing the email.
"I am writing to ask about the meeting on Friday."
Thank you for your email.use when you reply
A polite way to begin a reply. You thank the person before you answer.
"Thank you for your email. I am happy to help."

Could you please …use for requests
A very polite way to ask someone to do something.
"Could you please send me the report?"
I would like to …use to say what you want
A polite way to say what you want to do or what you need.
"I would like to change the time of our meeting."
Please find attached …use when you send a file
Use this when you send a document or file with your email.

A polite way to say sorry for a mistake or a delay.

How to finish the email

A formal and polite way to finish a work email.

A friendly and polite way to finish an email. Less formal than Kind regards.
