Simple Past โ€” completed action at a finished, known time.
She achieved her goal last year. (finished โ€” last year is over)
I improved my score in June. (specific finished time)
Key rule: Finished time words (yesterday, last week, in 2010, ago) โ†’ use Simple Past. No time, or unfinished time โ†’ use Present Perfect.
