Life experience with ever/never Β· Recent actions with a present result

What is the Present Perfect?

We use the present perfect to talk about two things:

Use 1 β€” Life experience: Things you have done (or never done) in your life. We don't say exactly when.
I have visited Paris.  |  She has never eaten sushi.
Use 2 β€” Recent action, present result: Something that happened recently and the result is important now.
I have lost my keys. (= I can't find them now.)  |  She has broken her arm. (= Her arm is broken now.)

How do we make it?

Positive

Negative

Questions

Have you ever visited another country?
Has he ever eaten Japanese food?

Short answers: Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.  |  Yes, he has. / No, he hasn't.

Ever and Never

We use ever in questions: Have you ever seen a tiger?
We use never in positive sentences with a negative meaning: I have never seen a tiger.

Regular verbs just add -ed: visit β†’ visited, cook β†’ cooked, play β†’ played, watch β†’ watched, try β†’ tried.
